A small game to whack together

Built with Dot, oversized weapons, and a lot of playtesting.

I wanted to see what I could build with Dot, the AI assistant from OpenAI. So I made a game.

It’s called Whack Together. A silly multiplayer survival game where you run around with oversized weapons, fight monsters and try to keep each other alive.

An early inspiration was this video by @rewind02. We borrowed ideas from its movement and camera, then gradually turned the experiment into a game.

I wanted something I could play with my girls, my wife or some friends. Just send a link and jump in. No download. There’s one public room, with up to six people playing at once.

The slow part was me finding time to play and give feedback. This is a side project, and I wanted to try each version before deciding what to change. Bigger weapons. More monsters. Scarier bosses. Then play again.

Dot handled the coding, testing and deployment (no other harnesses). I gave it direction and kept asking for changes.1

I wanted the whole thing to feel comical. Ridiculously large weapons, a bit of chaos, and hopefully some laughter with the people you’re playing with.

Now I’m slightly worried about letting my girls play. What if they like it a little too much?

Anyway, grab a few friends and give it a go. If the room is full, there’s a waiting line.

I hope it gives you a little fun and laughter, even if only for a few minutes.
