One month into the break
5 May 2026
1 month in after leaving Tech in Asia.
I’ve mostly been doing things I didn’t have time for before. Playing more tennis, sorting out household admin, reading, learning, talking/ideating with smarter people. Not just AI/tech folks, but builders outside my domain. Learning a ton. Always leaving me fascinated. There’s more outside of tech.
I’m also saying “yes” to more cold outreach, helping other founders where I can.
Also… I can’t stop building. Built a bunch of family-use apps. One to track household finances. And one Openclaw bot for daily meal prep, which has saved quite a bit of my wife’s time.
Also learning more about investing. Built a magic formula app, based on Joel Greenblatt’s book, for simple stock screening. And a BTC signal app based on the turtle trading system. Goal is to systemize and take emotions out of investing.
My wife and I are the only WAUs for these apps. 😂
Building a weekend open source project with Ian Tan. Not sure where it’s going, but we’re both learning and having fun with it.
I’m AI pilled. But also don’t think AI is everything. Too much hype now imo. It’s just a tool, I keep reminding myself.
Also reminding myself to actually use my brain, to build something people want. Use the tool, not the other way around.
Building one-shot, non-production apps, or tweaking workflows/markdown files/harnesses are fun, good for learning (and cool to share). But not that useful unless you turn those skills into products that solve problems and/or something people actually want. Again, a reminder to myself.
